Early Attendance Numbers released in SDOC

After the first week of school, the School District of Oconee County (SDOC) is down a few students, explains Assistant Superintendent of Operations Steve Hanvey. “As of Friday, we were at 10,364 students, so we are a little under where we have been the past couple of years. Of course, with the transition and combining of the schools we have lost probably a little over 100 students, but with that being said we are still in good shape. We will add a few more students, those numbers will be tweaked and we will update you on day 10, which will be this Friday.” After the first five days of school, Walhalla High School lists 1,064. Seneca High’s attendance stands at 979 students and West-Oak High counts 908 students. Of the SDOC’s three middle schools, Walhalla’s has the most students at 853, followed by Seneca at 802 and West-Oak at 660. Both Walhalla schools were assigned students who live in the attendance zone formerly assigned to the now closed Tamassee-Salem Middle and High School.
