Early Voting Underway for Municipal Elections

Municipal elections in Oconee County are underway, and some residents have already cast their votes.

Here’s how the voting process is going so far:

The first day of early voting, which started on Monday, saw a low turnout across the five municipalities. Only 13 votes were cast in total, with City of Walhalla having the most votes (9) and Town of West Union and City of Westminster having no votes at all.

Some voters have also opted for absentee ballots by mail. As of Monday, 42 absentee ballots were mailed and 28 were returned. City of Seneca had the most absentee ballots mailed (32) and returned (23), while Town of Salem and Town of West Union had none.

The early voting period will continue until next Friday, November 3 at the Elections Office in Walhalla, Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm, and election day is November 7. The candidates for each municipality are listed via a link on Oconee County’s website to SCVotes.gov.

These elections will decide the mayors and council members for each municipality.
