Easely Man Charged with Crashing into ATL FBI HQ

On April 1, just after noon, an incident occurred at the FBI headquarters in Atlanta. A man from Easley, SC, identified as 48-year-old Erving Lee Bolling, drove his SUV into the front gate of the facility, located off Flowers Road in Chamblee.

The FBI offices are surrounded by a fence and a gate, which employees’ access by swiping their badges. Bolling attempted to tailgate an employee through the gate but was prevented from entering. He then reportedly crashed into the gate, exited his red/orange SUV, and fled on foot. However, he was quickly apprehended by nearby FBI agents. Bolling was taken into custody by the DeKalb County Police Department and later transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has since charged him with depredation of federal property. He made his initial court appearance on April 3. The motive behind Bolling’s actions remains unclear. Following the incident, a bomb squad was dispatched to the scene to thoroughly search the vehicle. No weapons were discovered.

The investigation into this case by the FBI Atlanta Field Office is ongoing.
