Easley Man indicted for Child Pornography

A Federal Grand Jury in Greenville returned indictments against an Easley man for possession and distribution of child pornography.  United States Attorney Bill Nettles announces that 54-year-old James Newton was charged in a two-count indictment.  The maximum penalty Newton could receive is 20 years imprisonment and a maximum fine of $250,000 for the possession charge, and not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years imprisonment and a maximum fine of $250,000 for the distribution charge.  The case is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney William Watkins, Jr., of the Greenville office for prosecution.  This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. The U.S. Attorney stated that all charges in these indictments are merely accusations and that all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
