Easley’s Chief of Police Resigns

The police chief of Easley, Stan Whitten, has resigned after reportedly being involved in a fight at Lake Keowee on Saturday, June 10.

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple 911 calls about the fight. Whitten had been in a verbal fight with a man and had abrasions on his forehead and nose. The other man involved denied hitting Whitten and said he stumbled and fell on his own.

The argument reportedly started when the man asked Whitten to move his truck at the boat ramp. Whitten then allegedly began yelling profanities and racial slurs at the man. Deputies reported that Whitten appeared to be intoxicated during questioning and admitted to drinking a few beers.

Chief Whitten announced his resignation on Thursday.
