Education Reform Bill Hot Topic Locally and in Columbia As Well

(Seneca, SC)————One of the most talked about pieces of legislation being discussed right now in Columbia in the state Legislature is the Education Reform Bill. Dr. Michael Thorsland, Superintendent of Education for the School District of Oconee County, said on the Coffee Time program Monday that he is happy that education is a hot topic right now in Columbia and it is good for education to be discussed as a whole, which includes discussions about a modern funding system and teacher salaries.

Dr. Thorsland says that something in the House version of the bill, if passed by the Legislature, would have huge implications for local school districts and that would be consolidating Adult Education and Career Centers into the state technical college system. Dr. Thorsland said yesterday that he doesn’t think something like that would happen and that he does not support it.
