Eight killed on SC Highways over weekend

Eight people were killed on state roadways over the weekend. The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces that as of May 17, 327 people have died on state highways, compared to 282 highway deaths during the same period in 2014. Locally, Anderson County reports 14 highway deaths in 2015 compared to 12 in 2014. Both Oconee and Pickens counties list five in 2015 and six in 2014. Of the 238 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2015, 119 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight May 17, 37 pedestrians have died compared to 30 in 2014; 32 motorcyclists have died compared to 26 in 2014; and eight bicyclists have died compared to four in 2014.
