Eleven killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces eleven people were killed on state roadways from Friday, April 11, at 6pm until Sunday, April 13, at midnight.  As of April 13, 199 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 202 highway deaths during the same time period in 2013. Locally, Oconee County reports four highway fatalities in 2014 compared to zero in 2013 at this same time.  Pickens County lists four in 2014 and seven in 2013.  Anderson County has experienced seven highway fatalities in 2014 compared to nine in 2013. Of the 153 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2014, 83 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight April 13, 23 pedestrians, 15 motorcyclists and 4 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.  These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight April 13, 2014.
