More flu related deaths are being reported in South Carolina as the state deals with record low temperatures.  The South Carolina Department of Environmental Control reports 11 flu deaths in the week ending January 18, which brings the state’s total to 41 deaths since flu season began in September.  All but four of the deaths have been adults, with 16 flu deaths reported this season in people between ages 50 and 64. More than 1,200 people have been hospitalized with the flu and a total of 24,000 cases have been reported in South Carolina since the flu season began at the end of September. Most of the confirmed lab cases of flu in South Carolina are from the same H1N1 strain.
