Fair Play Man arrested for Burglary, Kidnapping and Domestic Violence

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Fair Play man this week on multiple charges, including first degree burglary, kidnapping and domestic violence in the first degree. Booked into the Oconee County Detention Center after being transported from the Anderson County Detention Center was 46-year-old Timothy William Mathis. He was also charged with one count of petit larceny in relation to the same incident. On Feb. 8, a deputy responded to an address on Loop Circle near Westminster and began an investigation into an assault. The victim told the deputy that she had been held against her will and threatened by Mathis starting two days prior. The victim told the deputy that she had been assaulted and that Mathis had forced entry into her residence and did not allow the victim to leave or make any outside contact. During the incident, Mathis took the victim’s cell phone and other property. Mathis was not on the scene when the deputy arrived to begin the investigation. Based upon the evidence obtained in the investigation, the deputy had probable cause to obtain the arrest warrants against Mathis. He was given a $10,000 surety bond on the petit larceny charge but was denied bond on the other three charges. Mathis will appear before a Circuit Court Judge at a later time regarding bond.
