Fatal House Fire Near Salem

A house fire occurred near Salem on Saturday afternoon, leading to the demise of a local resident, Gary Bruce Green, aged 61.

The fire broke out at his residence at 134 Grant Mill Road, Salem, and was attended to by the Salem Fire Department along with other fire departments around 4:35 pm. Mr. Green was found alone, deceased in the living room after the fire was put out.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by SLED Fire Investigators, Oconee Fire Emergency Services Investigators, and the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.

An autopsy was conducted Monday morning. It was determined Mr. Green died due to accidental smoke inhalation.
