Fire Safety Tips

As part of Fire Prevention Week, the Seneca Fire Department is educating the community about proper fire safety.  Seneca Firefighter Chris Cartee encourages these fire safety practices.  “Planning and practicing how you and your family will escape a fire safely can make all the difference.  Plan two routes of escape from every room and designate a meeting place outside your home.  Remember get out and stay out.”  Cartee encourages parents to educate their kids about fire safety. “Keep matches and lighters out of their reach.  Maintain a working smoke alarm on every level of your home and practice a fire escape plan.”  The third leading cause of death for older adults is cooking in the home.  Cartee offers these fire safety tips when cooking. “Never leave cooking unattended because a fire can start in seconds.  Don’t wear loose clothing while cooking, keep towels and potholders away from the range and double check the kitchen before you go to bed or leave your home.” For more fire safety tips visit www.usfaparents.gov.
