Fire Sprinkler Demonstration this Saturday

Oconee County Emergency Services in conjunction with the Seneca Fire Department and South Carolina Fire and Life Safety Association will hold a live side-by-side burn at noon on Saturday at Home Depot in Seneca. Each year fires in residences take a high toll on life and property with approximately 362,100 residential building fires, 2,555 civilian fire deaths, 13,275 civilian fire injuries and $6.6 billion in property damage. Studies by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s United States Fire Administration indicate that the installation of residential fire sprinkler systems could have saved thousands of lives; prevented a large portion of those injuries; and eliminated hundreds of millions of dollars in property losses. The public is invited to attend this side-by-side fire sprinkler demonstration. Personnel will construct two nearly identical living rooms with the only difference one having a home sprinkler system installed. The fires will burn sequentially to demonstrate how quickly a fire can spread and the impact an in-home sprinkler system can have on a fire. Home Depot of Seneca has graciously come forward as being the host business for this community event. On the same day, Home Depot will be having their annual Kids Workshop from 9am until noon.
