First Meeting of Kellett Committee goes well

The first meeting of a 12-person committee comprised of Seneca City officials and Adams Subdivision residents charged with finding a solution on what to do with the old JN Kellett School went well, according to Seneca Utilities Director Bob Faires.  “I thought it was productive in getting ideas out there to where this goes, still yet to be determined, but it was a beginning step.” The city was planning to locate Seneca Light and Water offices in the old JN Kellett School, but before renovations could begin, nearby residents voiced concerns.  Faires said the idea behind the committee’s formation was finding an appropriate use for the building.  “The goal is to come up with a solution that we are all in agreement with.” At their November 12 meeting, the Seneca City Council gave the committee 45-days to come up with a solution, to be presented to council at their January meeting, explains Faires.  “I felt everybody felt like we could at least give a progress report, I don’t know if we will have the answer or an answer, but at least a progress report at minimum that we are getting close to. I think the committee is good, I think there are good folks on there and I think we can get something figured anyway.”  Committee members agreed that, to help them make recommendations to the Seneca City Council, they should tour the building. The committee’s inspection of the former school building was then set for December 9.
