First Week graded favorably in SDOC

The first week of public school in Oconee County received a favorable grade from Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland. “The most important part of school went very well. We go students into classrooms quickly and teachers were teaching the students. The first day of school, I walked around the halls of some of our schools and that part of school went great. We did have a few traffic situations, particularly at some of the schools where we have new traffic patterns. Fair Oak and Ravenel are challenges because we are doing construction there. The two Walhalla schools that had changes, Walhalla Middle and Walhalla High, both experienced a few traffic issues. I think learning new patterns and as always in the first week of school there are more parents that drop their kids off, just with it being new I think a lot more parents want to drop off and pick up that first week. So, we are working through some of those challenges, but overall it was a very good first week.” Dr. Thorsland expects traffic to ease around school zones this week as people adjust to the start of another school year.
