Five killed on SC Highways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces five people were killed on state roadways from Friday, March 21, at 6pm until Sunday, March 23, at midnight. As of March 23, 150 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 149 highway deaths during the same time period in 2013.  Oconee County lists three highway fatalities in 2014 compared to zero in 2013 at this same time.  Pickens County has experienced three highway deaths in 2014 compared to seven in 2013.  Anderson County reports five in 2014 and seven in 2013. Of the 120 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2014, 64 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight March 23, 17 pedestrians, 10 motorcyclists and 2 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight March 23, 2014.
