Five killed on SC Roadways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces five people were killed on state roadways from Friday, January 31, at 6pm until Sunday, February 2, at midnight. As of February 2, 57 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 58 highway deaths during the same time period in 2013. Locally, Oconee County reports three highway fatalities in 2014 compared to zero in 2013 at this same time.  Pickens County lists one in 2014 and five in 2013.   Anderson County has experienced two highway deaths in 2014 compared to one in 2013. Of the 48 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2014, 28 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight February 2, six pedestrians, two motorcyclists and one bicyclist have died on state roads and highways.   These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight February 2, 2014.
