Florida Firm Chosen to Conduct Study for Oconee County

The Oconee County Council has acknowledged disparities in county workers’ pay. However, there’s no consensus on how to address this issue. The council has decided, by a narrow margin, to hire a Florida-based firm, Evergreen Solutions, to conduct a “Classification, Compensation and Time Use Study”.

While Chairman Matthew Durham believes this study will help the county devise a plan to move forward, two of his colleagues, John Elliott and Julian Davis, argue that the nearly $60,000 cost will be wasted.

They believe the study will not provide any new information. Speculations suggest that millions of dollars might be needed to rectify pay disparities and ensure fair compensation for county workers based on their skills and responsibilities…

The vote to authorize the study was split, with Durham, Hart and Mize in favor, and Davis and Elliott opposed.
