Former OCSO Captain Charged After Investigation

Charles Jeffrey Underwood, a former Oconee County Sheriff’s Captain from Mountain Rest, was charged with misconduct and larceny and was released from jail on a personal recognizance bond on Thursday. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 31st.

Underwood was placed on administrative leave when the investigation began in June, however, he is no longer with the Sheriff’s Office. According to Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, the 48-year-old Underwood had been with the sheriff’s office for 21 years.

Sheriff Crenshaw requested SLED to conduct an investigation after discovering a possible issue with Underwood and its pill take-back program.
