Four killed during Holidays on SC Roads

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces four people were killed on state roadways during the Christmas Holiday Reporting Period, which started December 24, at 6pm and concluded December 25, at midnight.  During the weekend period beginning December 27, at 6pm and ending December 29, at midnight, two persons were killed in crashes on state roadways. The South Carolina Department of Public Safety reports that Oconee County had three highway fatalities in 2013 compared to 22 in 2012 at this same time.  Pickens County reports 14 highway deaths in 2013 and 16 in 2012.  Anderson County experienced 33 highway fatalities in 2013 compared to 48 in 2012.  As of December 29, 734 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 860 highway deaths during the same time period in 2012. Of the 486 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2013, 269 were not wearing seat belts.  Through midnight December 29, 89 pedestrians, 118 motorcyclists and 13 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.  These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight December 29, 2013.
