Four killed on SC Highways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces that four people were killed on state roadways from Friday, August 2, at 6pm until Sunday, August 4, at midnight. As of August 4, 412 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 502 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012. Locally, Oconee County has experienced one death in 2013 compared to nine in 2012 at this same time. Pickens County reports ten highway fatalities in each of the past two years.  Anderson County lists 15 in 2013 and 25 in 2012. Of the 280 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2013, 165 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight August 4, 44 pedestrians, 65 motorcyclists and 7 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight August 4, 2013.
