Four killed on SC Highways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces four people were killed on state roadways from Friday, October 25, at 6pm until Sunday, October 27, at midnight.  As of October 27, 614 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 690 highway deaths during the same time period in 2012.  Oconee County reports two highway deaths in 2013 compared to 14 in 2012 at this same time.  Pickens County lists 13 in 2013 and 14 in 2012.  Anderson County has experienced 28 highway fatalities in 2013 compared to 43 in 2012. Of the 407 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2013, 226 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight October 27, 66 pedestrians, 106 motorcyclists and 12 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.   These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight October 27, 2013.
