Four killed on SC Highways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces four people killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of August 17, 444 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 463 highway deaths during the same time period in 2013. Locally, Oconee County reports seven highway fatalities in 2014 compared to just one in 2013 at this same time. Pickens County lists seven in 2014 and 10 in 2013. Anderson County has experienced 24 highway deaths in 2014 compared to 17 in 2013. Of the 317 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2014, 156 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight August 17, 48 pedestrians, 50 motorcyclists and 7 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight August 17, 2014.
