Four killed on SC Highways over weekend

As we approach the end of the year, the number of people killed on South Carolina roadways continues to increase. The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces four people were killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of midnight Dec. 7, 738 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 724 highway deaths during the same time period in 2013. Locally, Oconee County reports 12 highway fatalities in 2014 compared to three in 2013. Pickens County lists 10 in 2014 and 14 in 2013. Anderson County has experienced 39 highway deaths in 2014 compared to 33 in 2013. Of the 519 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2014, 244 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Dec. 7, 93 pedestrians have died compared to 92 in 2013; 80 motorcyclists have died compared to 121 in 2013; and 13 bicyclists have died compared to 15 in 2013 on state roads and highways.
