Friends of Library to hold Special Sale on Saturday

For those who cannot make the monthly Thursday used book sale, the Friends of the Library will be holding a special used book sale this Saturday at the Walhalla Main Branch.  Oconee County Public Library publicity director and Seneca Branch manager Blair Hinson gives details. “A special one coming up on Saturday, Feb. 25 and that is from 9am to 12:30pm at the Walhalla Main Library and hopefully everybody will come out.  They have some great deals on hardbacks, paperbacks, DVDs, a lot of the things that get donated to our libraries that are still in really good shape and it is just something that we already have a copy of, so that goes to the book sale.  We still get the benefit from it and believe me you are going to find some gems at the book sale.” The Friends of the Library is a very special group, adds Hinson. “We are really grateful for our Friends group, these are your volunteers and they raise a nice pile of money for us that really help supplement.  Sure, we have our operating funds, but the things that the Friends do for us are nice.  The Friends provide us, not only with some regularly scheduled things like our Let’s Talk About It book discussions at the Seneca Branch, that will be coming up soon, that is always sponsored by the Friends along with the Humanities Council of South Carolina, but they provide us different operating funds throughout the year for a lot of the fun stuff that we do, like programs and different things that we really wouldn’t be able to do without their help.” The Oconee County Friends of the Library was organized in 1985. It is a 501(c)(3) organization of volunteers dedicated to serving the Oconee County Public Library System. All activities are undertaken for contributing financial and volunteer assistance to supplement the library’s resources, support library programs and stimulate community awareness, use and involvement with the Library.  Hinson says these are the people who help make the library a special place.  “They kind of make the difference between being able to open the doors and have books for folks versus some really neat programs and services.  They are very instrumental in our summer reading programs and sponsor a lot of the entertainers that we have come, so we are very grateful for their support.”  This Saturday’s special used book sale at the Walhalla Library is from 9am to 12:30pm.  The next regular Friends of the Library used book sale is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 13 from 9am to 5pm.
