Future Chefs Competition Winners announced

Tessa Backman, a third-grade student from James Brown Elementary, was the first-place winner for her entry, “TLT Spinach Wrap” at the fourth annual Future Chef competition that was held last week.  Taking second-place was Prince Johnson, a third-grade student from Westminster Elementary and third-place went to Deandra Martin, a fifth-grade student from Northside Elementary.   Twenty students from across the School District of Oconee County elementary schools spent last Thursday afternoon at Blue Ridge Elementary preparing their favorite healthy recipes for the competition.  The Future Chefs event was presented by Sodexo, the district’s food service and Quality of Life services provider.  Loyal Piker, a third-grade student from Walhalla Elementary, received the award for best table decoration.  Below are the winning recipes from the competition:

First-place, TLT Spinach Wrap, prepared by Tessa Backman, James Brown Elementary:

Ingredients
1 spinach wrap
2 slices of Boar’s Head turkey
2 pieces of lettuce
2 slices of tomato
1 tsp. of fat free ranch dressing

 

Lay the wrap out, spread one tsp .of fat free ranch dressing on one side of the wrap.  Place turkey over the ranch dressing on one side of the wrap.  Place turkey over the ranch dressing; place lettuce over the turkey; place tomato over the lettuce.  Roll the wrap into a circle and slice in half.  Enjoy!

Second-place, The Maximum, prepared by Prince Johnson, Westminster Elementary:

Ingredients
2 pieces of wheat bread
½ banana cut into thin slices
1 spoon raisins
1 spoon peanut butter

 

Spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread.  Then top with raisins, banana slices, and other slice of bread.

Third-place, TLCT, prepared by Deandra Martin, Northside Elementary:

Ingredients
2 slices of bread
2 slices of turkey
Low fat shredded cheese
Slice of tomato
Place a slice of turkey on top of a slice of bread.  Then place lettuce, cheese, and tomato over the turkey.  Add the second slice of turkey and then the other slice of bread.
