Golden Corner prepares for Cold Weather

Get ready for the stronger push of cold air in the Upstate of South Carolina. Most of the Upstate will be hard-pressed to get out of the 40s today, with many mountain locations staying in the 30s. Overnight temperatures are expected to fall to the low 20s in the mountains and low to mid 20s in the Upstate. Oconee County Emergency Management director Chief Scott Krien encourages everyone to check their heating systems before turning them on for the first time this season. “We also want to make sure that people have their systems checked and pay attention to when they first startup those systems that they are running properly. Also that proper ventilation for their stoves, their chimneys are clean and that they use the appropriate distance from any heating device.” If you plan to heat your home by burning wood or if you plan to do any outdoor burning this winter, Chief Krien also encourages precaution. “We need to make sure that we use the appropriate procedures for outdoor burning or burning in your fireplace to make sure things are safe and other things cannot catch on fire.” This latest bought of cold weather is anticipated to last through next weekend.
