Gov. McMaster Designates Third Tuesday in February as HBCU Day in South Carolina

South Carolina’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities will be celebrated across the state on the third Tuesday of each February.

Yesterday in Columbia, Governor Henry McMaster signed H.4576, which aims to honor the efforts and contributions of HBCUs in South Carolina…

The bill was passed unanimously in the State Senate last week. There are eight HBCUs in South Carolina – six private and two public. The Higher Education Act of 1965, defines an HBCU as “…any historically black college or university that was established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of black Americans.”
