Gov. names New SC Fire Marshal

A new Fire Marshal has been appointed in South Carolina. On Tuesday, Gov. Nikki Haley appointed Robert Polk to lead the state Fire Marshal’s office. Polk, who was the state Fire Marshal from 2000 to 2003, replaces Shane Ray, who took an executive job with the National Fire Sprinkler Association in May. Polk brings over 40-years of experience to the position, which he assumed on Friday. The Fire Marshal is part of the state’s Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. The Fire Marshal is mostly responsible for enforcing the state’s fire codes and other fire safety regulations.
