Government Report urges Kids to get Flu Shot

The government is out with a report on kids who have died from the flu since 2004. What is surprising is that children with no high-risk medical condition were more likely to die than those considered high risk, explains Center for Disease Control epidemic specialist Dr. Karen Wong.  “The flu can be very fast and prevention is going to be the best strategy.” The CDC recommends all children get the flu vaccine this year, adds Dr. Wong. “Any child can be at risk and that is why the CDC recommends that all children, six months or older, get a flu vaccine every year.” The flu can make even healthy children sick, concludes Dr. Wong. “A lot of parents may not recognize that flu can cause really serious complications in children, even those who are healthy.” Talk to your doctor about getting a flu vaccine for your child this year.  Flu season runs through February.
