Governor to visit Seneca for Bill Signing

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley plans to be in Seneca next week for a ceremonial bill signing, explains Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander.  “This is something that Senator Thomas Alexander is involved in and I really do appreciate all the work that Sen. Alexander does; he is an amazing public servant.  There is a bill called the Emerson Rose Law.  There was a couple in Clemson, Susan and Jason Smith, that lost their child due to a heart defect.  This will help South Carolina children from here on, so in South Carolina that will be a mandatory test that will have to be done and hopefully what happened to this little girl will never happen to another child.  I really appreciate Sen. Alexander because he has helped get this bill passed.  The Governor is planning to be here next week.  We are going to do it at Gignilliat that was the place that they have asked to reserve in the big room there to have the signing of this bill.”  The Gignilliat Community Center has been booked for the Governor between 2pm and 4pm on August 7. There, she will draw attention to Emerson Rose’s law, named for the late two and a half month old daughter of Susan and Jason Smith. Emerson Rose was born with congenital heart defects, and the new law makes mandatory all South Carolina hospitals test newborns within 48 hours of their birth.
