Graham on Syria Chemical Attack and American Response

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) issued this statement on the chemical attack in Syria and the United States’ response. “There is no doubt in my mind that the Assad regime carried out yesterday’s horrific chemical weapons attack in Syria, killing dozens of men, women, and children. The target of the attack was the Syrian opposition and the ability to deliver the weaponry in question lies with Assad, not ISIL or the opposition. This is the biggest test yet of the Trump presidency. The President has an opportunity to punish Assad in a way that President Obama never would. This is the moment for President Trump to prove to everyone that when it comes to foreign policy and standing up to dictators, he is not President Obama. I don’t believe this President will make the same mistakes of his predecessor when it comes to Assad. Here at home, I hope this attack will change the rhetoric of the last few days on the question of whether Assad should stay or go. If we accept Assad as the leader of Syria, it will be a big win for Russia and Iran, and the region will continue to deteriorate at an even faster pace.”
