Groundbreaking Ceremony For Residence Program Held At Prisma Health – Oconee Memorial Hospital

(Seneca, SC)—————A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon on the campus of Prisma Health – Oconee Memorial Hospital for a new facility that will house one of the organization’s newest residency programs. 

Family Medicine Residency – Oconee will train physicians to meet the primary care needs of patients in rural communities with a population health approach to medicine. 

Hunter Kome, chief operating officer of the Oconee Medical Campus, says the point of the facility is to train doctors, particular to train doctors to train in rural areas and to create a pipeline of future potential doctors to stay in the area, including Oconee County and with Prisma Health. 

The 14,500 square foot building is also home to Center for Family Medicine – Oconee, the practice in which the residents will train. 

The first class of residents is expected to begin in July of 2020 and the building is expected to be completed by the summer of 2020. By the year 2022, 24 physicians in total are expected to serve the practice, according to a release from Prisma Health.
