Hamilton Career Center Students receive $1,000

Members of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) at Hamilton Career Center were presented a gift of $1,000, the result of a random drawing among hosts of a blood drive this past year. Every year, HOSA hosts at least one blood drive at the Center and most years there are two. Oct. 29-30, Hamilton Career Center students and faculty donated 90 units of blood. Each unit has the potential of helping three people in need. As future healthcare employees, HOSA members are proud to support The Blood Connection. The next blood drive is scheduled for Feb. 10-11, 2015. The Hamilton Career Center chapter of HOSA plans to use the $1,000 award from the Blood Connection to help offset the expenses of the state and national conferences students attend each year. These conferences provide students the opportunity to compete in over 50 healthcare skill and knowledge competitions, showcasing their abilities and passion for healthcare. The cost per student is approximately $250. Last year 42 students participated. If you would like to sponsor a HOSA student this year to attend the State Leadership Conference in March of 2015, contact Patricia W. Smith, HOSA Advisor at the Hamilton Career Center, 100 Vocational Drive, Seneca, SC 29672.
