Have Neighbor get Mail if leaving town for Holidays

If you plan to leave town for the holidays, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office offers these safety tips to protect your home when you are away. Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt says ask a neighbor for help. “If you are going to be traveling, make sure of course, if you are going to be gone for several days perhaps you could have a family member or your neighbor pick up your mail. Somebody who you trust to get those newspapers out of the driveway would be a good idea.” Stage your house as if you were home, continues Watt. “Maybe if you have more than one vehicle, leave one of the vehicles at your home to give the impression that somebody is there. Maybe if you have your lights on a timer as well to be a deterrent to would be thieves.” For more tips on protecting your home for the holidays, visit the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office website at www.oconeelaw.com.
