Hazing Jurisdiction determined

Jurisdiction regarding a recent hazing incident involving the Walhalla High School varsity boys’ soccer team has been determined. Sister station WGOG reports that a meeting between Walhalla Police Chief Ronald Wilbanks and Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw on Tuesday decided the case falls under city police jurisdiction and the Walhalla Police Department is to be the primary investigative agency to determine what, if any, crimes were committed. State law says that investigative authority remains with the police department’s school resource officer, no matter where the hazing is suspected to have occurred. Sheriff Crenshaw offered the resources of his office to assist in the investigation.
