Heavy Rain not Wind recorded in Walhalla

Tones sounded this morning in Oconee County warning residents that conditions were right for tornadoes to touch down in the area. The National Weather Service in Greenville issued a tornado warning for Oconee County at 8:51am. Fortunately, heavy rains rather than winds struck the Golden Corner, explains U.S. Weather Observer Barbara Wilson from her office in Walhalla. “Right here in the middle of the county the wind wasn’t very strong, to the west of us it probably was. The rain was very heavy at times and now it is just a steady rain, so I think we are out of the wood as far as a tornado being seen or felt in the area.” During a tornado warning, make sure to identify an interior room, preferably with no windows, somewhere that you can seek refuge during times of extreme weather.
