Heavy Rains blamed for Car Crashes in OC

A deluge of rain swept through Oconee County Tuesday morning causing several car crashes, explains Oconee County Emergency Manager Chief Scott Krein. “We did have a few responses for motor vehicle accidents mainly from the rain. We did have some significant rain, which we do expect to continue throughout the day.” Chief Krein encourages motorists to slow down and pay closer attention when driving in heavy rains. “As always we need to extend our distance a little bit, allow yourself more stopping time. We never want to cross roads that have flooded waters that may sweep the car away. But as always; reduce your speed, pay attention and increase your distance from car to car.” Parts of Oconee County were also under a tornado warning during the storm. Chief Krein tells what to do in the event of a tornado warning is issued for the area. “During a tornado warning we need to make sure that we have identified an interior room, preferably no windows, somewhere that we can seek refuge during this time of extreme weather and during a warning we want to pay attention to get out of cars and into a safer environment.” Stay tuned to 94-1 The Lake, WSNW to hear weather alerts for the tri-county area of Upstate South Carolina.
