Help shape Oconee County’s Future

Oconee County wants input on its comprehensive plan, which is a statement of goals that set the course for the future. The comprehensive plan inventories existing conditions, states the needs and goals of the community, and provides implementation strategies for reaching the goals stated in the plan. Oconee County community development deputy director Josh Stephens tells how citizens can comment on the plan. “The comprehensive plan represents a long-term view, 10-20 years, or a strategic approach to making the community’s vision for the future a reality. State law requires that a comprehensive plan be reviewed at least every five years and updated every ten years. A survey is being conducted as part of the overall effort to review and update Oconee County’s comprehensive plan. It is intended to provide the Oconee County Planning Commission with a better understanding of how citizens feel about some of the major topics under consideration.” Take the survey at www.oconeesc.com/Departments/AJ/CommunityDevelopment/PlanningZoning/ComprehensivePlan.aspx. In addition, residents are welcome to call the Oconee County Community Development Office at 864-364-5109 to take the survey over the phone or request a paper copy.
