Highway Fatalities on decline in Tri-County of Upstate

Highway fatalities are down across the tri-county area of Upstate South Carolina. According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, Anderson County lists 14 deaths in 2015 compared to 15 in 2014 at this same time. Oconee County has experienced five in 2015 compared to six in 2014. Pickens County reports six in each of the last two years at this time. As of May 31, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety reports 355 people have died on state highways, compared to 309 highway deaths during the same period in 2014. Of the 249 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2015, 120 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight May 31, 39 pedestrians have died compared to 33 in 2014; 43 motorcyclists have died compared to 31 in 2014; and 8 bicyclists have died compared to 5 in 2014.
