Hiker rescued from Issaquena Falls

Oconee County Rescue personnel were dispatched to Issaquena Falls Wednesday afternoon for a hiker that had fallen over the edge of the embankment beside the falls. First arriving units located the injured 16-year-old hiker approximately 75-feet below the walking trail on a small ledge where he was able to stop his slide down the hill. Using rope systems, rescuers repelled down to him and secure him for extraction. Then he was lifted out to safety with no major injuries. Responders from Oconee County Emergency Services, Oconee County Special Rescue Team, Mountain Rest Rescue, Walhalla Rescue, Walhalla Fire and Greenville Hospital System’s Oconee EMS, all contributed to the safe out come of this rope rescue operation, said Chief Scott Krein with Oconee County Emergency Management.
