Historic Marker Dedicated in Oconee County

On Saturday, a historic marker was revealed in Walhalla to commemorate an unfortunate incident that took place almost a century ago in Oconee County. The marker was erected at the corner of S. Tugaloo and Short streets on the grounds of the Oconee Courthouse to remember Allen Green, a black prisoner who was killed by a lynch mob in the area. The incident is regarded as a dark moment in Oconee County’s history. Seneca’s Arts, History and Culture Director Shelby Henderson was at the event.
