History of OC Business told at State of Oconee

The history of business in the Golden Corner of South Carolina was told Friday afternoon at the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce’s annual State of Oconee. As the county celebrates it’s Sesquicentennial, attendees heard from State Representative Bill Whitmire, a former history teacher, about how business started in Oconee County with trade between the Cherokee and early Colonists. “Well, I think the people here are excited about the future. I talked about the past but Oconee County is going forward by leaps and bonds. I just wish I was going to be here for the next celebration in 150 years but it is a wonderful time for Oconee County right now.” What better way to celebrate the county’s last 150 years than by hearing from a history teacher, said Oconee County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Vanessa Penton. “I’m thrilled, we had such a good turnout, I was a little concerned about the numbers but it is excellent to see everybody coming together and being excited about what is going on in Oconee County.” State of Oconee took place this year at Blue Ridge Elementary School in Seneca.
