Homeschool Extravaganza Sets Sail at the Anderson County Museum

All homeschoolers are invited to attend April 26th, 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

ANDERSON: Grab a boarding pass and set sail at the Anderson County Museum for a one-of-a-kind excursion. We invite all homeschoolers to come on an adventure with us this Friday, April 26th!

Our cruise through history, will begin with Anderson’s largest body of water: Lake Hartwell. If the Anderson County Museum were a cruise ship, we would likely set sail from Green Pond Landing. Opened in 2014, Green Pond Landing has hosted numerous fishing competitions and boasts an economic impact of over $110 million. Leaving the shoreline, we could cruise to Andersonville Island. This two-mile stretch of land in the middle of the lake is all that remains above water from the once bustling town of Andersonville.

There will be learning opportunities and engaging docent led tours for all grade levels. From military history to the textile mills, trade, and transportation, students will learn in a fun and interactive way. We will also cruise to the upper parking where Kevin Smith with Electric City Forge is running the forge. There will be tours of the McGee Harness Shop also. This event is planned as an interactive and engaging way for homeschool students to learn Anderson County and South Carolina history. In the museum courtyard, there will be lots of games to play. Hot dogs will be $2.50 including a drink and chips.

The ACM is a collecting museum with more than 32,000 artifacts, there are many things to see and study in our gallery. Students can visit all exhibits at their leisure and learn about the museum’s Roper Research Room. The research room is a great place to find information about a variety of topics rooted in Anderson County and South Carolina history for school assignments and projects.

“As an admission free museum, it costs nothing for families to walk in our doors. Part of our mission is educating the public. As an artifact driven museum, our exhibits give students an opportunity to see objects they have never seen before,” said Executive Director Beverly Childs. “This event gives homeschoolers and their teachers a chance to connect with other homeschoolers across the upstate.”

The fun begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 26th until 1 p.m. We do ask for a general headcount if you plan to attend and have a hot dog.
