Howard’s Rock gets New Case

Howard’s Rock, the iconic rock Clemson University players rub before their run down the hill into Death Valley has been given a newly renovated home to keep it safe between games. The stronger case for Howard’s Rock follows an act of vandalism last June in which the old plexiglass cover was removed and a large piece of the rock stolen. The Clemson Tigers barreling by Howard’s Rock into Memorial Stadium is billed as “the most exciting 25 seconds in college football” and the rock is an integral part of the tradition. The rock came from California’s Death Valley in the 1960s.  Coach Frank Howard told the players “give me 110 percent, or keep your filthy hands off of my rock.” In August, three people were charged in connection to the vandalism.
