Impersonating Officers Seems to be Criminals’ Latest MO

Jerry Jacob Nabors, a 44-year-old man from Easley, has been arrested and charged with kidnapping, strong-armed robbery, and impersonating a law enforcement officer by the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office. Nabors allegedly approached a victim on April 4th while wearing plain clothes and a “badge” around his neck, claiming to be an officer. He threatened to take the victim to jail for not presenting a driver’s license and coerced the victim to ride with him to the bank to withdraw money. Nabors was later arrested by the Pickens City Police Department and transferred to Greenville County on a $30,000 bond. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with similar experiences to come forward.

In a separate incident, Andrew Jason Elrod, a 40-year-old man from Seneca, was arrested on a charge of impersonating a law enforcement officer by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. Elrod allegedly presented a badge to witnesses at the scene of a traffic accident and was later released from jail on a bond amount of $1,087.50. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who had previous contact with Elrod involving a badge to file a report. Sheriff Mike Crenshaw advised citizens to ask to see a deputy’s identification and badge during any contact with law enforcement officers.
