Improvements planned for OCPL Website

In response to patron’s requests, the Oconee County Public Library is improving its virtual branch to make it more easily accessible on mobile devices. Oconee County Public Library Branch Services Librarian Blair Hinson says this is a way for the library to be more modern and accessible. “We kind of like what we have now, but we want to progress to something that is a little more visually pleasing and a little bit more organized not only for just being able to look at it on a computer but so many people today have mobile devices. The platform that we have now does not really scale as well as we would like for mobile devices. When you look at it on your phone, it still looks like the website, so it is kind of crowded. Whereas the new system that we are going with and we’re hoping to have that ready to introduce to everybody by the end of the month does scale better for all mobile devices.” The website will have a cleaner look adds Hinson. “The layout is a little cleaner and nicer and hopefully folks will be able to find things even easier than they can on our website now. We will try to keep as much information as we can there and keep some of the great features that people expect now like the calendar, OverDrive and some of our other databases. We will try to still provide as much information as we can but maybe get that interface looking a little cleaner and more modern.” The new mobile device friendly website of the Oconee County Public Library is set to launch later this month.
