Incidents at Blue Ridge Park troubling Seneca Mayor

Two recent incidents on property of the city’s former all-black high school during segregation are troubling Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander. On April 18, two men were injured in a shooting and on April 8, vandals did $30,000 in damage at Blue Ridge Park. “I hate to hear stuff like that because there were two non-life-threatening incidents but very easily things can go the wrong way too when you have situations like that arise. I know that the police department is investigating that and trying to get to the bottom of it. We want a safe community. I think about Blue Ridge Field, what two weeks ago we had major, major vandalism. We have done a lot of work over there and that was a project that was done with the city and some of the people from Code Elementary, so there is a lot of history right there in that area.” In the shooting incident, one man was shot in the leg and transported to Oconee Memorial Hospital for treatment. A second man was grazed on the hand and treated at the scene. Both injuries were described as non-life-threatening. No suspects have been arrested as the Seneca Police Department continues to investigate both incidents.
