The 2022 Tax Free Weekend takes place Friday, August 5, through Sunday, August 7. The South Carolina Department of Revenue said eligible items can be purchased online and in-store without paying the state’s 6% Sales Tax and any applicable local taxes during South Carolina’s Tax Free Weekend. Tax-free items include computers, printers, school supplies, clothing and accessories, shoes, and certain bed and bath items. These tax-free items can be new or used and are eligible regardless of price.

Students and teachers in Pickens County are back in classes tomorrow, while students in Oconee County go back on Monday, August 15 and in Anderson County classes resume on Tuesday, August 16. Keep in mind that federal funding for free school meals has stopped and starting this school year students would need to apply for free or reduced meals, otherwise they will pay full price for breakfasts and lunches.

Also remember that this Thursday, August 4th, United Way of Oconee County will distribute free school supplies while they last. The drive-thru event will be at Shave Rec Complex in Seneca from 8:30am until 2:00pm.
