Jerome Mandel at the Historic Ballenger House

Mary Martin and Flora Riley, members of the Seneca Woman’s Club, are hosting a literary reading at the Historic Ballenger House from 1:30 to 2:30pm on Saturday, Sept. 19. Jerome Mandel will read some of his short stories. Mandel won first-place in the P.E.N.-UNESCO International Short Story Competition in 1997. His stories have appeared in literary magazines and collections on both sides of the Atlantic and the Pacific. His books include Nothing Gold Can Stay: 18 Stories of Israeli Experience and most recently Covet the Oven: 20 Short Stories of the Head, the Heart, and Writing. In his academic life, he has published 4 books on medieval English literature and 10 scholarly articles, and given over a 100 public lectures and fiction readings on four continents. The literary reading at the Historic Ballenger House is open to the public, free of charge.
